Cornerstone is an active senior (55 plus) group within the life of First Christian Church. They have a desire to share their love of God by supporting FCC’s vision to “love God, love others, serve the world”.

The cornerstone concept is derived from the first stone set in the construction of a masonry foundation, important since all other stones will be set in reference to this stone, thus determining the position of the entire structure. The ministry shares their love of God and His love to others by providing opportunities for:

  • Fellowship
  • Learning
  • Inspiration
  • Church wide Activities
  • Trips of Interest

Fellowship

Cornerstone gathers regularly in many kinds of venues to promote fellowship. Social events keep members connected in special and casual settings, as well as provide informal settings for evangelism and outreach.

Regular events are:

Cornerstone Dinners with Entertainment

Held 2nd Tuesday of the month at 6 PM in the Family Center, on varying months of the year. Cost is $10 for the meal and includes the entertainment which can vary from musical groups to comedians to magicians. Sign-up and pay in advance for the dinner at the Events Counter. Watch the bulletin for the entertainment and menu for a particular month’s dinner and also when reservations are being accepted. Paying guests of all ages are welcome. However, be sure to sign them up and pay for them at the Events Counter, too. We will need their names so that name tags can be prepared.

Lunch Bunch

Held 4th Thursday of every month at 11:30 AM. Except for November and December when it is held on the 3rd Thursday due to the holidays. A different restaurant is selected each month with varying locations, i.e., Rotate between South Fort Myers, Fort Myers, North Fort Myers and also the Pine Island Road area of Cape Coral.

Open to all FCC ages and guests. Sign up at the Events Counter. This gives us a ballpark count so the restaurants can be prepared for our group when we arrive. Pick up the most current 2-16 month Lunch Bunch Schedule at the Events Counter. And, also watch the bulletin for when and where the next Lunch Bunch will be, as well as sign up dates and cut-offs. Other fellowship opportunities are scheduled as occasions and events are identified.

Learning

Cornerstone will schedule special educational events when needs and or opportunities present themselves. Topics may include but are not limited to: Learning a craft; working with computers or smartphones; using Facebook; Grief Share; being a care giver; end of life planning; etc.

Inspiration

Cornerstone sponsors a corporate support group for several children in El Salvador, Bolivia and the Dominican Republic. This group supports the children together rather than individually. No set amount is required to participate. There are some who give weekly, monthly and annual amounts. Christmas and birthday gifts are also given to the Cornerstone Sponsored Children.

For more information or to participate, go to the Events Counter or contact Becky Wilcoxson in the church office. The Care Bears Ministry originated as a ministry of the senior adults. Pew Buddies and Prayer Shawl opportunities are a couple of the new ideas being considered.

Churchwide Activities

In addition to the Lunch Bunch monthly outings, Cornerstone also sponsors Broadway Palm shows on a regular basis which are open to all of FCC and are at group rates. As other opportunities surface, Cornerstone is always open to sponsor events to include all generations.

Trips of Interest

Cornerstone annually takes a multi-day trip, usually in the fall. Each year is something different and can range from a cruise to a trip by coach. The current trip is to New York City, September 28 – October 6, 2016. To get more information on the New York trip and or to sign up, go to the events counter or click here for a brochure. Day trips are schedule when there is enough interest in an identified opportunity. typically these trips start from the church and carpool. Lunch is always included in any day trip outing and on rare occasions. Breakfast and/or dinner may be also. Watch the bulletin for information on any single or multi-day trips. The trip overview and sign up details will be identified.

All trip sign ups will be at the Events counter For more Cornerstone information or to volunteer to help with activities contact: Becky Wilcoxson at the church office; (239) 334-0316 ext. 100, or email bwilcoxson@fccfm.org
